Show Coaching

We all spend a lot of time practicing, training, rehearsing our performance prior to a show but the decisions we make at a show can impact our final scores. While some people have a tremendous amount of show experience, others may be relatively new to showing. Regardless of where you are, Show Coaching can be a great way to have support at the shows. Why might you want Show Coaching? Maybe your trainer or coach isn't able to attend the show you want to go to or perhaps you don't have a trainer or coach. And, sometimes its the smallest of questions at a show that can have a huge impact on your show-pen performance. For example, maybe a rider isn't sure which bit to show their horse in based on a new behavior they experienced in warm-up. Or, maybe the pattern for a class you are planning to ride in has a challenging maneuver for your horse's skill set.

Show Coaching enables you to ask Shannon questions about your horse, showing strategies, tack, warm-up and practice sessions, showmanship, feed and forage for your horse during a show or whatever other question may come to mind.

Here's how it works:
  • You simple click the button below to sign up for coaching and let me know you wish to be coached. You must register for coaching before the show using the link below.
  • For SHTX shows, an open ride will occur on the Thursdays prior to the show/SHTX clinic. During this 'open-ride' Shannon will help you with anything you are worried about, want to get better or just want to practice. There is no set agenda for this ride. It's just an opportunity ride together, typically in multiple arenas, see teammates and ask any questions you may have about the weekend.
  • During the show, if you have any questions whatsoever, you can text Shannon, catch her in the isle way or call her for help.
  • If you feel like you want Shannon to ride your horse to improve some aspect of their performance at the show, just let her know. Sometimes a rider feels better if their horse receives little tune-up on a specific maneuver prior to their class. It is important you let Shannon know as soon as possible if you want her to 'school' your horse so that she can set aside enough time for you and your horse.
  • Shannon will try to be at every performance, but sometimes its not possible for her to make every run. Plan to have every single show-pen run recorded on your phone so that she can go over your run afterwards.
  • Included in each Show Coaching is a 1-2 hour ZOOM webinar the following week to go over videos of runs from the entire team. During these sessions, 1-2 runs are reviewed (per rider). During the review, Shannon will provide feedback on what went 'great' and what spots caused lower scores. These are awesome sessions because you will learn by watching other competitor runs as well as your own.
  • Show Coaching - $150 per show. Coaching generally looks like, planning out warm-up times and routines, coaching you during the show (before, during and after your runs), help with your horse, providing strategy recommendations, etc.  Zoom video reviews the week following the show.

Helpful Tips
  • Most of these shows are one to two day shows. I encourage you to come for a lesson at least the week before the show to fine-tune your horse and to practice. If you are unable to travel for a lesson with me, we can schedule a virtual lesson using FaceTime call, PIVO meet or ZOOM.
  • For all shows, you will be responsible for entering your horses into a class. If you want help with deciding which division to show in, please ask Shannon.
  • It’s your responsibility to know when you will show in your class. Always be aware that riders with draws before you may scratch and you don’t want to miss your turn or not be ready for your run. You coaching includes help with knowing how long to warm up your horse.
  • Be sure to have your horse warmed up and ready to show because 60% of your success in the show-pen hinges on you and your horse being prepared. Shannon an help you know when and how long to warm your horse up prior to showing in a specific class.
  • For overnight shows, it is helpful to stall near Shannon's stall area. Depending on how many people are showing, a tack stall may be added so that everyone has a place for saddles and such. Tack stall costs will be split by the people using the stalls. In some cases, more than one tack stall may be required.
